Consultative meeting of NGOs for the Protection of Birds was held in Belgrade on 6. February.

In the premises of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia event was held as part of the "Sound of birds." The meeting was attended by representatives of organizations that have signed the "Palic initiative to protect birds and biodiversity in Serbia", as well as representatives of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, the Provincial Bureau of Environmental Protection and representatives of the Office for Cooperation with non-governmental organizations.

Meeting was opened with a welcome from Jasna Jovićević, followed by presentations:

  • "Public Campaign for the Protection of Birds in Slovenia" - Tomaž Jančar (SPB Slovenija);
  • "History and current status of initiatives to protect turtledoves and quails in Serbia" - Dragan Simić (LOA) and Dejan Đapić (ANL Riparija);

after which followed the discussions and discussion about a common strategy and performance due to the change of rules on declaring a closed season of protected species of wildlife, prohibition of hunting turtledoves (Streptopelia turtur) and quails(Coturnix coturnix).

 

A brief introduction to the "Monitoring-model for improving inter-sectoral cooperation" was held by Goran Sekulić, Assistant Director of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. And was followed by discussion on "Draft Law on National Parks" www.mprrpp.gov.rs/dokumenti/ ).

 

This meeting was held with the intention to present the previous work of the "Palic initiative to protect birds and biodiversity in Serbia", to round out the whole story and to see what remains to be done, all attended representatives actively participated and gave their ideas and views on topics that were talked about.
